Definition
The main function of a coupling is to realize stable power transmission between a power source (e.g. motor or engine) and driven equipment (e.g. pumps, compressors, fans). It is not only a key component of power transmission, but also absorbs vibration, reduces shock and extends the service life of the equipment.
Structure
The structural design of the coupling varies according to the application requirements and can be generally divided into the following main parts:
- Housing and internal parts: Couplings usually contain solid housing to protect the internal parts. The inner part contains a variety of component structures, such as springs, diaphragms, sliders or gears, which are designed according to the requirements of the application.
- Connection mechanism: Rigid couplings are usually designed for direct connection to the shaft, while flexible couplings are often equipped with elastic materials (e.g. rubber, plastic, metal springs, etc.) to absorb vibrations and compensate for shaft deviations.
- Fixings: Most of the couplings have screws, keyways or clamping mechanisms for fixing on the shafts at both ends.

Couplings are widely used in various industries, especially those requiring efficient power transmission and precision motion control:
- Manufacturing industry: including machining, CNC machine tools, automation equipment, etc.
- Energy industry: for wind turbines, hydroelectric generators and pump systems.
