Positioning pins are also known as fixed pins, it is used to position parts to maintain relative positions between parts, to connect and transmit torque, power or axial force, to use the workpiece hole as a locating base, to limit the freedom of the participate parts, and to control the six freedom movement of the object in the three axes of X, Y and Z, and in the rotation around X, Y and Z. It is designed for the accurate positioning of the mold adjacent to each other in a mold consisting of two or more parts.

When the body is made up of several parts, and each part needs to be precisely positioned during processing and assembly, positioning pins should be used. For example, if a split housing consists of a cover and a seat, the processing of the upper bearing hole has a high accuracy requirement, and two locating pins should be set far apart on the split surface to ensure its processing and assembly accuracy.Depending on the structure, they can be divided into small locating pins, fixed locating pins, interchangeable locating pins and locating pins. In order to ensure the accuracy of the relative position between the two parts after reassembly, cylindrical pins or conical pins are often used for positioning.Therefore, the pin and pin hole requirements are higher, and for processing convenience, the pin hole will be made into a through hole as much as possible.
