The AI PC Era: Acer's Insights on Opportunities and Challenges in the PC Market

Artificial intelligence (AI) is accelerating its influence across the PC industry, driving transformation and shaping new consumer expectations. Today, users are increasingly seeking devices that combine AI capabilities with ultra-lightweight designs, rather than focusing solely on performance.

Acer Chairman Jason Chen emphasized that while the global PC market remains affected by tariffs and fluctuating demand, the real momentum comes from consumer desire for “AI-powered, lighter, thinner” devices. Sub-1kg AI laptops have been positioned as strategic products to capture this shift.

Despite AI PCs reaching around 40% penetration this year, Acer COO Tiffany Huang noted that “killer applications” for AI PCs are still missing. Many users continue to rely heavily on smartphone-based AI, meaning PC adoption will require time, education, and more intuitive applications.

In contrast, the gaming market shows steady demand, supported by GPU platform upgrades and new gaming content. The competition between hardware and software continues to fuel gaming-related upgrades. However, with overall PC shipments stagnating, brands must focus on integrating proprietary AI tools and applications to boost differentiation and raise average selling prices (ASP).

Another challenge lies in the coexistence of multiple CPU generations, which has created new complexities in inventory management and supply chain strategies.

On the supply chain side, Acer continues to mitigate tariff risks by diversifying production through facilities in Thailand and Vietnam, while adjusting shipment strategies for the U.S. market.

Ultimately, AI PCs are still in their early stages, but they are becoming the core driver of the PC market’s next wave of innovation, combining AI, lightweight design, and added value to define the industry’s future.
